Kendrick Lamar hedras med en nyckel till hemstaden Compton för sitt samhällsengagemang

Compton-profilen tar emot hyllningen den 13:e februari.

Rappare som representerar sin hemstad är inget nytt, men att någon gör det med huvudet lika högt som Kendrick Lamar är en betydligt mer unik företeelse. K. Dot fortsätter att uppmuntra enighet och social medvetenhet och tilldelas nu nyckeln till hemstaden på grund av sitt arbete att agera positiv förebild i samhället. Borgmästarkandidaturen som övervägdes i “King Kunta” är ännu inte på tapeten för Kendrick, men en nyckel till hemstaden är måhända ett första steg på vägen till en framtida politisk karriär?

Compton’s borgmästare Aya Brown tillkännagav hyllningen till “To Pimp a Butterfly”-rapparen via Twitter, varpå K. Dot svarade ödmjukt:

I juni 2015 förklarade Kendrick sina tankar runt sin roll som en inspirationskälla för ungdomarna i Compton:

“There’s a lot of kids that grew up the way I did. That feel like there’s no way out. We don’t get a lot of celebrities or whatnot to come to the city and actually put they hand back in the city and say, ‘You can do it, too.’ I feel like it’s only right that I champion them, let them know I’ll always be behind them. Let them know I know the sacrifices and the struggles they go through and give ’em some type of inspiration.”
