Häromdagen publicerades listan över ”10 Greatest Rappers of All Time” där Notorious B.I.G. föga överraskande stod som nummer ett. Övriga namn på listan skapade dock  rabalder och heta diskussioner både bland artister, musikbransch och hiphop-fans världen över. Snoop Dogg ventilerade bland annat sin frustration över att Tupac Shakur saknades på listan:

“This is so disrespectful. !!Whoever did this list need a swift kick in the Ass. No. Tupac. Come on cuz ?. Jus my opinion.”

Kolla in Billboard-listan nedan!

10. Lil Wayne, “A Milli,” producerad av by Bangladesh

9. Jay Z featuring Amil and Jaz-O, “N—a What, N—a Who?,” producerad av Timbaland

8. Snoop Dogg featuring Pharrell, “Drop It Like It’s Hot,” producerad av The Neptunes

7. Puff Daddy and the Family, “All About the Benjamins,” producerad av Deric “D-Dot” Angelettie

5. Mobb Deep, “Shook Ones Part II,” producerad av by Havoc

3. Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth, “They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.),” producerad av Pete Rock

“This may have been the first hip-hop beat that could make you cry. And not just because of the inspiration behind it — the senseless, unexplainable death of a close friend…”

2. Nas, “NY State of Mind,” producerad av DJ Premier

“DJ Premier is arguably the best hip-hop producer of all time, and this may he his finest beat, and the one that represents him the best. … There’s no escape from the street scenarios it inspired Nas to describe — or this unforgettable beat once it gets into your nodding head.”

1. Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, “The Message,” producerad av Ed Fletcher, Clifton “Jiggs” Chase and Sylvia Robinson

“Old school hip-hop’s greatest instrumental masterpiece, and the best sample-free rap beat ever, made before the innovations of folks like Steinski, Rick Rubin and Marley Marl brought loops to the forefront. The mix of cascading synthesizers, guitar plucks and timbale fills was the perfect backdrop for what’s widely hailed as the prototype for sociopolitically conscious rap.”
