Brandy och Teddy Riley hyllades för sina livsverk inom soul/r&b.

Under söndagsnatten sändes Soul Train Awards under ledning av Erykah Badu i Las Vegas och förutom stjärnspäckade uppträdanden fick vi se Beyoncé ta hem ett flertal statyetter -medan Drake gick tomhänt från galan. Även Fat Joe & Remy Ma med French Montana and Infared tog hem två priser för “All The Way Up” medan Chance The Rapper utsågs till “Best New Artist”.

Under galan fick vi se en lång rad scenframträdanden med bland andra Erykah Badu och D.R.A.M, en återförening av Dru Hill (med Sisqos “Thong Song” i ett medley, Anderson. Paak gjorde en tolkning på “The Waters” med BJ The Chicago Kid. Brandy gjorde ett “Lady of Soul”-framträdande med ett bejublat medley samt en hyllning av Teddy Riley med Guy, Bobby Brown, Doug E. Fresh, Wreckx-N-Effect, V. Bozeman och Tito Jackson. Som att detta inte vore nog kom även den årliga “Soul Cypher” med Angie Stone, Tyrese, Ne-Yo, och Gladys Knight (med Erykah Badu som DJ och Robert Glasper på piano).
